Calculation of aortic valve area (AVA) with simultaneous measurement of flow-volumes and flow-velocities across the aortic valve. According to the formula given above AVA can be calculated continuously over the whole cardiac cycle.The graph shows an example of 50 phases across the cardiac cycle of a patient with a mean AVA of 0.92 cm2 and a stroke volume of 44 ml by PC-CMR.
