Representative ¹³C multi-slice dynamic images of pyruvate, lactate and bicarbonate in the fed state in two healthy volunteers (subjects HV3, top, and HV6, bottom). Each time-point required 3 heartbeats to acquire, of which the first of each set of 3 heartbeats was used to acquire ¹³C-pyruvate, the second for ¹³C-lactate, and the third for ¹³C-bicarbonate. The ¹³C individual metabolite images are scaled consistently across all time points. ¹³C-pyruvate images are scaled to a third of its maximum for display purposes
